About The Iran-Indo Joint Committee

 

Iran and India have a long history of mutual relationships. However, with the growing need for exchanging knowledge and expertise in order for countries to make use of the experiences of other nations, the two countries have decided to expand their academic relations. Accordingly, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) of the I.R. of Iran and the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of India held their 1st Joint-Committee Meeting on 12th December, 2016. This meeting was held in the MSRT and it followed the visit of the Indian minister to Iran in May 2016. The chair of this meeting and the head of the Iranian side was Professor Mohammad Kafi, the President of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM). The Indian side was represented by Dr. Mitra, advisor of the Minister of Education and Technology of India. Moreover, representatives of the Indian embassy in Tehran, financial ambassador of India, and India’s Nodal Officer for the Iranian Desk were present at this meeting. During this meeting, the two sides presented an overview of the current state of affairs with regard to the academic relationships between Iran and India and discussed potential areas for further cooperation. At the end of this meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two sides.
In this Memorandum, the main duties of the joint committee were outlined as follows:
•    To create a favorable environment for the implementation of Science and Technology (S&T) activities
•    To decide upon the specific areas of cooperation between the two countries
•    To suggest and approve joint-venture research projects and workshops in order to foster and support the various cooperative activities for S&T collaboration
More specifically, the two sides agreed on holding 10 joint-venture projects, 2 joint workshops, 2 training programs and one meeting in 2017-2018. Some specific fields of knowledge were agreed upon as the main scope of the projects and workshops. Also, all the details regarding the joint-venture projects and programs were discussed.
